Today's Wales
A new government came to Britain and an Assembly to Cardiff. In a referendum in 1997 Wales voted in favour of devolution. Cardiff Bay was transformed with the development of the Senate and the Millennium Centre.
The agricultural industry suffered as the foot and mouth disease hit farmers in 2001.
One of the biggest threats of the period to date has been terrorism. The Twin Towers of New York were attacked in 2001 and London’s underground system was targeted in July 2005.
The state of the environment also became a growing concern and the boxing day tsunami of 2004 had a devastating effect on south east Asia, killing hundreds of thousands of people.
