Dr Thomas Jones

In 1984 the Library acquired as a donation its most important political archive. As a civil servant, Dr Thomas Jones was deputy-secretary to the Cabinet between 1916 and 1930. He served under four Prime Ministers: Lloyd George, Bonar Law, Stanley Baldwin and Ramsay Macdonald. He played a vital role in discussions leading to the Irish agreement in 1921 and the negotiations surrounding the General Strike of 1926. Thomas Jones was one of the co-founders of the Gregynog Press and Coleg Harlech.
