Kate Roberts
In 1985 Wales lost its most notable prose writer of the 20th century. Kate Roberts was born and raised in Rhosgadfan, Caernarfonshire. It is said that she turned to writing as a means of therapy after losing her brother in the First World War, and her father soon afterwards. She corresponded regularly with Saunders Lewis and these letters are amongst the most important records of the period. Kate Roberts is best known for her short stories and novels.
