Writers of Wales

Border Country by Raymond Williams (1921–1988) was published in 1960. As well as being a talented writer, Williams was one of Britain’s most influential cultural historians and had a special interest in left wing politics.

Un Nos Ola Leuad (One moonlit night), the most famous work of Caradog Prichard (1904– 1980), was published in 1961. Raised in Bethesda, Prichard won the Crown at the National Eisteddfod on three consecutive years, in 1927, 1928 and 1929.

In 1962 Tide Race by Brenda Chamberlain was published. She studied art at the Royal Academy but was also a successful writer who published collections of poetry, a novel and a book of memoirs.
