Dylan Thomas: Letter discussing 'Portrait of the artist as a young dog'
A letter from Dylan Thomas to Desmond Hawkins referring to the composition of his work, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog. A broadcaster, novelist and a literary critic Hawkins, like Thomas, reviewed literary works. Hawkins was to write a review of Thomas’ The Map of Love, published in 1939; this collection of 16 poems and seven short stories was composed at the time of his marriage to Caitlin, and whilst she was expecting their first child. The work received mixed reviews at a time when people were preoccupied with the War.
