The post-war years
Following the war and a lack of housing, the military erected tented camps in North and South Wales. Under the command of Aneurin Bevan, 50,000 homes were built in Wales by 1951.
In 1948 Aneurin Bevan introduced the National Health Service and transformed health care.
Following the war the economy grew with demand for coal, iron and steel. Conditions also improved in agriculture with the introduction of grants to promote improvements.
Technological developments became affordable, the home and the work-place were modernised. By the end of the 50s, there was a television set in 5 million of Britain’s homes. American and English influences came to Wales, transforming Welsh musical culture.
