Writers of Wales
In 1950 the Library acquired the manuscript of Profedigaethau Enoc Huws by Daniel Owen (1836–1895), the tailor from Mold. In 1953 Cysgod y Cryman (The shadow of the sickle), one of the greatest Welsh novels, was published by Islwyn Ffowc Elis (1924–2004). In 1956 Waldo Williams (1904–1971) published his volume of poetry, Dail Pren (Leaves of the tree). One of Wales’ finest poets, he is remembered as a Quaker, pacifist and nationalist. His work deals with the themes of the brotherhood of man and his homeland in the Preseli hills.
