Eisteddfod
The first eisteddfod was held in 1176 under the patronage of Lord Rhys in Cardigan Castle. In 1819 at the Ivy Bush Inn, Carmarthen, a formal link was forged between the Eisteddfod and the Gorsedd y Beirdd of Iolo Morganwg. This is the origin of the National Eisteddfod as we know it today. In 1947 the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod was established in an attempt to unite the nations following the Second World War.
