Bute Estate: Letter about a payment

The Bute Estate Papers include a letter by the famous 16th century adventurer and author, Sir Walter Raleigh, who was famous for laying his cloak over a pool of water to smooth the progress of Queen Elizabeth I. This letter was sent c.1617 to William St John of Glamorgan, a sea captain. It is thought the letter was written immediately prior to Raleigh’s last voyage to Guana, Africa, and that the expedition was partly funded by William St John.
