Llanover costume
Augusta Hall or Lady Llanover was one of the most important sponsors of Welsh folk customs in the 19th century. She is remembered mainly for establishing the iconic image of the Welsh costume, the high hat, apron and ‘betgwn’. In the series Cambrian Costumes, acquired by the Library in 1942, there are 17 watercolours commissioned by Augusta Hall. These illustrate the traditional dress of women in the counties of Wales.
