Joseph Parry (1841–1903)
Known as the boy from Merthyr, the manuscripts of Joseph Parry were acquired by the Library in 1935. Parry had established the Music Department at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1874. He composed some of Wales’ best known music, including the opera ‘Blodwen’, the part-song ‘Myfanwy’ and the hymn tune ‘Aberystwyth’.
