‘Mr Gareth Jones … a man who knew too much’ (1905–1935)
Gareth Jones was one of the most notable journalists of the early 20th century. He worked as a personal secretary to David Lloyd George before joining the Western Mail in 1933. He accompanied Hitler on a flight, met Krupskaya, Lenin’s widow, reported on the famine in the Ukraine and travelled to a remote and dangerous part of Inner Mongolia. It is claimed that he was murdered there by Japanese soldiers in 1935.
