Urdd Gobaith Cymru
Urdd Gobaith Cymru is one of Europe’s largest youth organisations. Ifan ab Owen Edwards announced his intention of establishing a movement for the children of Wales in a letter published in Cymru’r Plant in January 1922. By 1927 the movement had 5,000 members. Annual sports days were arranged and the first youth camp was held at Llanuwchllyn in 1928. The first Urdd eisteddfod was held at Corwen in 1929, and in May 1933 the Urdd ventured to Norway on the first of five cruises.
