Mystic powers: Astrological almanac
Almanacs were very popular in Wales until the early 19th century. Thomas Jones, Corwen published the first Welsh almanac in 1680. Based on similar publications in England, they contained all the necessary information for the coming year. These would include a calendar, advice on agricultural and medical matters, information on fairs, various eisteddfodau and a list of notable people and places. Many included an element of astrology and prediction. This is an unusual example, being an astrological almanac used by John Harries, Cwrtycadno, in the 19th century.
