Rebuilding, disestablishment and the new nationalism
By the end of the First World War in 1918, 40,000 Welshmen had died on the field of battle. It was a period of social and industrial rebuilding in Wales.
Economic problems worsened with a worldwide depression, industrial discontent increased, leading to the general strike of 1926.
In 1922 the Labour Party were the biggest party in Wales and in 1925 a new political party was established in Wales, Plaid Genedlaethol Cymru.
