John Thomas (1838–1905)

John Thomas’ photography is the most comprehensive record of late 19th century life in Wales. He travelled Wales over a period of nearly 40 years, recording its scenery and its people, and was a regular contributor to the magazine Cymru under the editorship of O M Edwards. A collection of over 3,000 of his negatives was bought by O M Edwards and came to the Library in 1919.
